Toward the end of every season, I schedule a "kids vs parents" game. A great time to do this is when the team is not doing so well and needs to have some fun, or at the end of the year party. There are many different ways to do this. Here are some tips to make it go smoothly:
The coach is allowed to play for either team and switch as needed.
Make sure everyone gets the ball.
Do your best to get the ball to the kids that don’t play as much.
Let the players design plays but give them a time limit.
Celebrate loudly and often.
For the real athletic parents: tone it down.No one wins anything regardless of the outcome.
Don’t make it obvious if you are letting a kid get the best of you.
Don’t cheat, even when they do (and they will, and have fun with it!)
Give high-fives generously.
Keep the game close and always give the kids a chance to win (get creative).
Take lots of pictures and try to record some of the game. I run around the field or the court with my iPhone recording during play and share it with parents. Have fun, and good luck!
